Red House vs. The Elm: Kingston’s patio champs revealed
Gooood morning, Kingston! Happy Friday! Mother’s Day is almost here, patios are popping, and local events are blooming like tulips on Brock Street. From wood-fired pizza to waterfront views, it’s shaping up to be one of those weekends that makes you fall for this city all over again.
Shoutout to the moms, grandmas, stepmoms, and mom figures out there: you make the world go 'round. 💓
As a mom or mom figure, what’s your dream Mother’s Day gift this year? |

Struggling to scale your business on social media?
If boosting posts feels like yelling into the void, you’re not alone. Between endless scrolls and skipped stories, it’s easy for great local businesses to get lost in the noise.
That’s where we come in.
YGKtoday puts your message in front of thousands of local people who actually want to hear from you — no chasing clicks, no fighting algorithms.
You bring the awesome. We’ll bring the attention.
The results are in!
It’s clear. Kingstonians love a good patio.
Red House and The Elm are tied for top spot, each winning over 24 percent of sun-loving sippers. Caesars snagged 14 percent, proving garnish really does matter. But it was the write-ins that stole the show, with 38 percent of you backing off-the-menu faves.
– “Amadeus beer garden” — twice recommended, so clearly no secret anymore
– “The Toucan on Princess Street. Great covered patio on the side and patio in the front for people watching. Food and drinks always at a great price. Love their daily specials.”
– “Aqua Terra — views of Lake Ontario and Wolfe Island ferry”
– “Olivea or Bobbi Pecorino’s across from Market Square.”
Looks like Kingston’s patio scene is hotter than the summer forecast.

Local Biz
Spearhead Brewing Co. is getting rave reviews from two YGKtoday readers. Louise and Bob love the fresh, shady patio vibes and wood-fired pizza, while another fan shouted out the “great staff, great beer, and lots of local musicians.”
With a newly renovated space, full food menu, and covered patio perfect for sunny day sets, Spearhead’s west-end location is clearly a local favourite for more than just the hops.
Treat Mum (or yourself) this Mother’s Day—live music is on from 2–5 p.m. on Sunday, May 11.
